American kestrel female

American kestrel female

The American kestrel is the smallest falcon, with long wings and a long tail. The wings of an adult female are rufous barred, as seen in this photo. There are many kestrels at the Bosque, often perching close to the access roads, seemingly accustomed to cars and photographers.
