Nesting Northern Gannets on Bonaventure Island

Nesting Northern Gannets on Bonaventure Island

Although Northern Gannets are very territorial, their nesting territory is small. Nests are laid out on a geometrical pattern with a spacing of about 80 cm (31 inches). This density is always the same for gannetries, regardless of available real estate. This is due in part to the need for maximum social stimulation, a key to breeding success.
