After a long winter, it is heartening to see our springtime birds arrive in western Massachusetts, many in full breeding plumage. I photographed many of these birds at the Stebbins Nature Sanctuary in Longmeadow, Massachusetts at a series of ponds near the Connecticut River.

Most of the songbirds at Stebbins were taking advantage of some birdseed on a large concrete block at pondside, so you will see the concrete base in many of the photos.
