Black-capped Chickadee
Poecile atricapilla
Stebbins Nature Sanctuary, Longmeadow, Massachusetts
This personable perky ubiquitous bird is one of my favorites. During the summer it is found in mixed forests of deciduous and coniferous trees, and in the winter is a common visitor at feeding stations where it seems to take great delight in stealing a sunflower seed and transporting it to a nearby branch for consumption. It's "chicka-dee-dee-dee" call is unmistakable.
