American Tree Sparrow
Spizella arborea
Stebbins Nature Sanctuary, Longmeadow, Massachusetts
With its rufous crown and grayish face, this handsome sparrow is a winter-time look-alike to the Chipping Sparrow. It is a migrant, arriving in New England in mid-October, staying through the winter and departing in the spring to breed from the west coast of Alaska, northern Canada, and coastal Labrador.
