Falco rusticolus

Honey Pot Rd., Hadley, Massachusetts, Jan. 2, 2013

The largest falcon, this bird is extremely unusual for Massachusetts and is normally found on the Arctic Tundra. Within the continental U.S., it would be more likely found in North Dakota. This photograph was taken from about 400 yards, using a Canon 5DMk3, 500 mm lens with 1.4x teleconverter. This image is heavily cropped, with some sharpening and contrast enhancement.
