Pectoral sandpipers (juveniles)

Pectoral sandpipers (juveniles)

Pectoral sandpipers are considerably larger than Least or Semipalmated sandpipers. They are bulky with a prominent streaked chest, scalloped-patterned above. Pectorals breed across north Alaska to the Northwest Territories, and winter in South America from Peru to Patagonia. They are relatively tame, and as seen in this photo at Weskeag Marsh, look very tall when standing erect.
