Melanerpes formicivorus

A western relative of the Red-headed Woodpecker found in the eastern U.S., this bird is found in Mexico, southern Arizona, and the California coastal ranges. The head and chest pattern is striking, and the bird is social with other Acorn Woodpeckers.
