Cardinalis sinuatus

Ash Canyon. This western cousin to the Northern Cardinal is found primarily in the southern parts of Arizona, New Mexico and west Texas. Its song of sharp whistles is similar to its eastern cousin, and the bill is short and yellow in summer. The crest is long and reddish in both males and females.
