Common Grackle, breeding plumage

Common Grackle, breeding plumage

Quiscalus quiscula

Stebbins Nature Sanctuary, Longmeadow, Massachusetts

This is the smallest grackle, with body and wings that are iridescent in breeding plumage. The back is bronzed and the head is blue-back, and then there is that evil yellow eye. These are noisy gregarious birds and are often found with starlings and blackbirds.
