Long-billed Curlew

Numenius americanus

Goose Island State Park, Rockport, TX

This is the largest North American shorebird, and is easily identified by its long decurved bill, which it uses in mudflats to capture shrimp and crabs as well as other vertebrates and invertebrates. Its wintering range extends along the entire Texas Gulf coast and across much of Mexico.
